JYOTI MAYI - BIO​

JYOTI MAYI uses sonic technology and energetic channeling practices to create transcendent experiences driven by sound. Her work inhabits the intersection of performance, sound art and meditation and accesses technology that spans the cultural and historical continuum to connect to the divine. Her acoustic toolbox includes custom built electro-acoustic instruments, field recordings, vocals of Sanskrit mantra, conch horns, ceramic wind instruments harmonium and digital audio production.



She holds a Master’s degree in Fine Arts and Photography from the California College of the Arts in San Francisco; however, the deeper architecture of her work is formed through diverse scholarly, spiritual, and sonic traditions.

She is deeply informed by 25 years of academic study and practice of Indian devotional music and yoga, research in archaeo-musicology of the pre-columbian Americas and a foundation in experimental music and deep listening practices.

Born in the United States, she lived in São Paulo from 2010 to 2016 and has been based in Mexico City since 2016.
